Hurdy Gurdy Cello Sitar Guitar
Elements:
Cello: Create a custom cello style bridge to raise the guitar strings so that they can be played with a bow.
Hurdy Gurdy: Design a wheel that would protrude from the face of the guitar with a shaft running through the body of the guitar and out the bottom, where a hand crank is attached. The wheel is turned and vibrates 2 drone strings.
Sitar: On the face of the guitar is a bank of 12 sympathetic strings that resonate as the guitar is bowed, creating a sitar-like drone.
Work-in-progress. Prototype drone instrument that combines an acoustic guitar body, with the bridge of a cello, vibrating wheel of a hurdy gurdy, and the sympathetic strings of a sitar. The goal is to craft a hybrid instrument for creating experimental pieces of drone music. Construction: wood, metal, harp strings/tuners, epoxy, Kinex.
